1) Which shade should I go to considering my skin type?

There are two things to consider when choosing your shade: How light your natural skin tone is, and how dark of a tan you want. If you’re fair-toned and want just a natural looking glow, choose Medium, if you’re darker skinned and want a darker tan, go with Ultra Dark. For those in the middle, you can choose between 2, but don’t fret about choosing the wrong shade because if you are worried about being too dark- wash it off after only 2-3 hrs; if you’re worried about it being too light- reapply after 30 minutes. Easy!

2) What's the trick not to get an orange colour?

The #1 factor in a tan not being orange is the product formulation itself! We have put a lot of time and energy into developing an amazing formula to prevent that orange color in our tan. Along with a great formulation with quality ingredients, our base undertone is green/purple which helps counteract orange tones, and is great for lighter and darker skin tones. The #2 factor, is using a formula too strong for your skin type. If you’re new to tanning and have fair skin, we recommend going for our Medium shade.

3) How to prep your skin prior to applying?

Ahhh, the skin prep! THE MOST important thing to remember when prepping your skin for tanning is exfoliation, exfoliation, exfoliation. Dry skin will react more strongly with DHA (the active ingredient). So removing as much dry skin as possible prior to tanning will help you achieve an even tan that fades beautifully. (We’re looking at you: elbows, knees, shins and ankles). Also make sure you wash and dry your skin prior to tanning, as well as doing any hair removal first. The final thing to do is to apply a bit of moisturiser to those pesky dry areas (elbows, ankles, knees). This will help ensure these areas don’t go patchy.

4) How do I make my tan last longer?

Following from the previous skin prep question, exfoliation prior to tanning is crucial. After that, daily moisturising will be your tan’s best friend! The added benefit of our formulation is that we’ve packed it full of moisturising ingredients to take care of your skin (Coconut Oil, Argan Oil, Jojoba Oil, Avocado Oil, Vitamin E, Vitamin B to name a few!)

5) Will the sweat or exercise ruin my tan?

Exercise where there’s excessive rubbing on your skin from your clothes, as well as excessive sweating will unfortunately shorten the life of your tan. Your tan will be the most susceptible on the day/day after you apply it so it’s best to tan on a rest day. This isn’t to say that regular exercisers can’t use fake tan, you’ll likely just have to reapply after 4-5 days to keep it fresh.

6) How long does the tan last?

This depends on many factors. Tans fade gradually, so darker tans generally last longer. As mentioned above, heavy exercise/sweating can cause a tan to fade faster. As a general rule we recommend reapplying every 5-7 days.

7) How long does it take fake tan to show?

Our formula has a bronzer/guide color which will give you an instant tan while the active ingredient DHA takes effect. This means when you shower the tan off after 3-6 hrs, your resulting tan will be there waiting for you. If you’ve showered after only a few hrs, and it’s a bit lighter than what you expected, don’t worry, the tan will continue to develop over the next 12 hours or so.

8) What's the minimum time to leave fake tan on?

It’s totally up to you, and what you’re after in your tan. If you want lighter, wash it off after 2-3 hrs. If you want darker, leave it for 6+ hours. If you’re tanning your face, it’s recommended to gently wash it off with water after 1-3 hours.

9) Is Fake Tan safe?

Very! Especially considering the dangers in the alternatives (tanning in the sun or sunbeds). DHA, the active ingredient in fake tan has been around since the 1960’s and is widely accepted as safe for use on the skin. Ours is the highest quality, European DHA and 100% organic. In addition to that, we’ve jam packed our formula with ingredients which will help with your skin’s hydration, elasticity, softness, and healthy cell growth.

10) Is Fake Tan safe to apply on my face?

The vast majority of people will safely be able to use our tanning mousse on their face (we recommend rinsing it off after only 1-3 hours). That said, we understand that skin on the face can be more sensitive for many people, especially those prone to acne and other conditions. If you know your face is sensitive to many products, we recommend patch testing in a small area for 1 hr before applying to the rest of your face.

11) How does sunless tan work? What is DHA?

There are generally two factors in fake tan that produce the resulting tan: 1) A bronzer/guide color, which gives you the initial tan, and which mostly washes off when you first shower (although, some does stay on your skin during the life of your tan), and 2) DHA (Dihydroxyacetone, the self tanning ingredient that reacts with the skin to produce a sunless tan coloration). DHA is a colourless 3-carbon sugar that when applied to the skin causes a chemical reaction with amino acids in the surface cells of the skin producing a darkening effect. DHA does not damage skin as it only affects the outermost cells of the epidermis (stratum corneum), and the darkened cells on this outermost layer of skin are naturally gradually shed off in the following days, which is what causes the gradual fading of a fake tan.

12) Why does some fake tan smell bad?

Depending on an individual’s body chemistry, sometimes the DHA can have a distinctive smell while the tan is developing. Our tan has been specifically formulated to reduce this smell, without simply adding lots of strong “perfumy” scents just to mask it over. Our overwhelming feedback from customers is that our tan smells much better (ie. No strong perfumes AND very low DHA developing smell) than other brands.

13) How often should you self tan?

Your tan will fade gradually over 5-7 days, so we recommend reapplying around day 5 to maintain your bronzed glow. Don’t forget to exfoliate first! Note: After a few tanning applications in a row, you might end up with a bit of buildup. The best way to turn your skin into a fresh canvas again is to use a “tan eraser” available for purchase at most supermarkets and drugstores. (We have our own in the works).

14) Can you leave self-tanner on too long?

No, after about 6 hrs the DHA will have “soaked in” as much as it will. (Although the effects will continue to deepen over the next 6-12 hrs). So for you tanners who like to tan-and-sleep – go for it!

15) What if I make a mistake, how do I remove it?

If you know you’ve made a mistake, you can immediately wash it off with a warm cloth. In the rare occasion you tanned too dark for your skin-tone, or you didn’t prep properly and ended up with an uneven tan, you can use a “tan eraser”, available for purchase at most supermarkets and drugstores. (We have our own in the works).

16) If I have skin acne or any wound or cuts would that cause any harm?

We do not recommend fake tanning over active facial acne. That said, many users like to tan over body blemishes to help even out their skin tone and “cover up” blemishes. We don’t recommend tanning over larger wounds or cuts as it may cause irritation on a healing area, and result in an uneven tan.
